Enhanced AirPods Pro 2: USB-C, Lossless Audio, and IP54 Rating Upgrades

Apple's transition away from the Lightning connector to fully embrace USB-C signifies a significant milestone. Alongside this shift, the AirPods Pro 2 receive an upgrade to the universal connector, but they also introduce several other exciting new features.

The AirPods Pro 2, now equipped with a USB-C charging case, bring support for 20-bit, 48 kHz Lossless Audio. However, there's a unique requirement: this feature is exclusively compatible with Apple's upcoming Vision Pro headset, set to launch in the US early next year. Apple explains that the shared H2 chip in both the AirPods Pro 2 and Vision Pro headset enables Lossless Audio transmission. This development raises the question of why this capability was absent from last year's Lightning model.

The newly introduced USB-C AirPods Pro 2 boasts an upgraded IP54 rating, providing enhanced dust resistance in addition to the water and sweat resistance found in last year's IPX4-rated Lightning AirPods Pro 2. Alongside this, the AirPods Pro 2 now offer support for features like Adaptive Audio, Personalized Volume adjustment, and Conversation Awareness. The battery life remains at 6 hours of listening time, with the case extending it to 30 hours. An added convenience is the ability to reverse charge your AirPods Pro 2 from your iPhone via USB-C.

The AirPods Pro 2, bundled with the USB-C charging case, retain their price point at $249, and they will be offered exclusively in the classic white color. Customers can begin purchasing these earbuds starting from September 22.
