Netflix Co-CEO Cautious on Apple Vision Pro: Deems App Launch Unjustified at Present

Despite the initial success of Apple Vision Pro pre-orders, the absence of a Netflix app on the spatial computer has raised eyebrows. According to Netflix Co-CEO Greg Peters, the decision is pragmatic rather than permanent. Peters explained in an interview with Stratechery that, at the moment, the effort required to port the streaming app to the platform outweighs the potential subscriber base among Apple Vision Pro owners.

Interestingly, Netflix is not alone in this approach. YouTube and Spotify have also opted out of developing dedicated apps for the Apple headset, suggesting a shared sentiment among major platforms. While Peters does not rule out the possibility of a Netflix app on the Apple Vision Pro in the future, the company is adopting a wait-and-see stance, closely monitoring the evolving situation before committing to development efforts for the unique spatial computer.

Exclusive to the Apple Vision Pro, Cupertino's Apple TV+ streaming service offers a unique viewing experience with the introduction of "Apple Immersive Video." This innovative format showcases 180° 3D footage in stunning 8K resolution, complemented by Spatial Audio, elevating the immersive quality of content on the spatial computer.

In contrast, while Netflix has ventured into the realm of virtual reality with a dedicated VR app since 2015, the streaming giant has yet to extend support to the Apple Vision Pro. Despite Netflix's earlier forays into 360° video content, including a notable production tied to its popular Stranger Things series, users of the Vision Pro won't currently find Netflix's VR offerings available on the platform.
