Weekly Poll Result: Affirming Excellence - The OnePlus Open Shines Amidst Price Concerns

The concept of economies of scale implies that as a product gains popularity, its production costs decrease. However, this phenomenon often results in a paradox. Expensive products struggle to gain widespread popularity, which hinders their ability to benefit from these scale-related cost reductions. This is currently the predicament faced by foldable smartphones, particularly those with a horizontal folding design.

The recent poll data revealed that the OnePlus Open has garnered considerable attention as a highly promising phone, potentially setting new standards for markets outside of China. However, the data also indicated that a significant portion of voters, 40%, expressed interest in the Open but found its price to be a significant barrier.

In comparison to Samsung's Galaxy Z Fold5, the OnePlus Open is relatively more affordable (excluding potential Samsung deals, which are fairly frequent, yet OnePlus has its own deals too). Nevertheless, the difference of $100/€100 seems insignificant when confronted with the overall price tag of $1,700/€1,800. Unfortunately, addressing this issue is not a task that can be swiftly resolved. Despite several years passing since the introduction of the first foldable devices, their prices continue to remain relatively high.

Apart from the usual group of voters who expressed their disinterest in foldable devices, there was a notable segment that remained steadfast in their stance against owning any type of foldable smartphone. While this group may include individuals who are averse to all forms of foldable technology, it's unlikely that those considering a large horizontal foldable would see a small flip foldable as a viable alternative.

However, setting these views aside, a few voters firmly believe that the current market offers no superior alternative to the horizontal foldable option. Both OnePlus and Oppo deserve recognition for their commendable efforts in designing impressive hardware. Additionally, the introduction of OxygenOS 13.2 with its new foldable-centric features has managed to capture the attention of users, even amidst the backdrop of Samsung's long-term refinement of the foldable version of One UI.
